Growing up emersed in popular culture, especially the emerging internet, created a well of inspiration the I often draw from and informed my approach to art. Whenever I struggled to articulate or understand feelings or experiences, I looked to stories and artwork to contextualize and connect with others, something I want to achieve in my own work. Storytelling gives a framework to approach difficult issues by being able to discuss and view it with a specific yet distant example.
Experience with managing mental health and developing a fascination with dreams and character psychology led me to the Surrealist movement, with conceptually informs many of my personal pieces. My approach to color and paint mediums is taken from my interest with the Impressionist and Expressionist movements, specifically for their speed, capturing observations, embracing the paint being paint rather than illusionistic, and being approachable. I've often observed people who don't know much about art bouncing off of pieces because they find it unapproachable. Pieces they can understand and recognize at least one aspect of, such as a figure they know, clear posing, or even striking colors, gives them a foothold to engage with the piece and potentially deeply connect to it.
